Range of Application

This garment may only be used for the practice of fencing according to the rules of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) or the respective national fencing federation.

Selecting the correct level of performance for protective equipment for fencers should be in accordance with the regulations of the relevant national fencing federation. We strongly recommend, in all cases, using only fencing protective gear of the highest level of performance (acc. EN 13567: 2002 + A1: 2007).

To find out the correct size of your underplastron please refer to the table on our website. Protective clothing for fencing should be chosen big enough to ensure room to move.

The zones of protection of this protective garment (shown in grey color) can be seen from the following figure:

The following parts of the garment are NOT part of the protective zones:

– the elastics that are only used to fix the garment

– all other fastening devices like straps, Velcro etc.

When fastening your underplastron, make sure, that all fastening devices (straps, velcros, zippers, buttons etc.) are closed completely and firmly. The elastics should be adjusted in a way, that they are under light tension. The garment may not be used any longer, if any of the fastening devices doesn’t work properly.

Warnings

The underplastron has to be worn under a fencing jacket of performance level 2. Fencing by virtue of being a combat sport in which body contact by the weapon occurs, is by its nature dangerous  Protective clothing and equipment for fencers is intended as far as possible to prevent injuries, or in the worst cases to reduce the severity of injuries, particularly by the point of the weapon. Broken blades pose a particular threat. The circumstances of the breakage of blades may result in high tip velocities and consequent high energy impacts by the broken blade. Broken blades have been known to penetrate protective equipment with fatal consequences. Fencing protective gear cannot guarantee complete protection against injuries, especially from broken blades. The protective function of the underplastron is limited to reducing superficial injuries such as abrasions and bruises.

Protective clothing must not be changed or manipulated. In particular seams must not be opened or further parts be added or taken away. Caring instructions must be respected. Non-respect of these instructions can reduce the level of protection of this garment.

Carefully inspect protective clothing for fencing at regular intervals to make sure, that no mechanical defects (like abrasion, holes, broken seems, tears, scratches) have occurred. If this has happened, the garment may no longer be used.

Fencing clothing is designed to only be used by either left handers or right handers (see marking on the cover page). Fencing clothing for right handers must not be used by left handers and vice versa.

Caring and Storing Instructions

This garment can be washed at 30°C in a mild detergent. Don’t spin-dry or tumble this garment, as the mechanical impacts might reduce its level of protection. All closures have to be closed during washing.

To be stored in its original packing in a cool and dry place without direct light exposure.

The garment doesn’t contain any substances at levels known or suspected to affect the health or hygiene of the user in the foreseeable conditions of normal use. The garment has been certified according to basic health and safety requirements of the Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment (PPE).
