Range of application
This garment is designed for use in the sport of fencing according to the rules of the international fencing federation (F.I.E.)
To choose the correct level of performance for protective clothing for fencers please refer to the rules of your national fencing federation. We strictly recommend to only use fencing clothing of the highest level of performance (EN 13567 + A1:2007 Level 2>800N), in any case an additional underplastron has to be used with the fencing jacket. A sabre jacket (without the triangular protection of the abdomen) must be worn together with fencing breeches of at least the same performance level.
To find out the correct size of your fencing jacket please refer to the table on our website. Protective clothing for fencing should be chosen big enough to ensure room to move. However it should be tight enough to avoid that the fabric falls in folds which might catch the opponent’s blade.
The zones of protection of this protective garment (shown in grey color) can be seen from the following figure:

The following parts of the garment are not part of the protective zones:
- the elastics at the end of the sleeves
- the tightening strap that is placed between the legs
- all other fastening devices like straps, hook and loop fasteners, zippers etc.
When fastening your fencing jacket, make sure, that all fastening devices (straps, hook and loop fasteners, zippers, buttons etc.) are closed completely and firmly. The garment may not be used any longer, if any of the fastening devices doesn’t work properly.
Warnings
This fenicing jacket is designed exclusively for use in the sport of fencing according to the rules of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). Selecting the correct level of performance for protective equipment for fencers should be in accordance with the regulations of the relevant national fencing federation. We strongly recommend, in all cases, using only fencing protective gear of the highest level of performance (EN 13567: 2002 + A1: 2007 Level 2). In any case an additional underplastron has to be used with the fencing jacket. A sabre jacket (without the triangular protection of the abdomen) must be worn together with fencing breeches of at least the same performance level.
Please refer to the size chart to determine the correct size of the fencing jacket. Protective clothing for fencing should be chosen big enough to ensure room to move. However it should be tight enough to avoid that the fabric falls in folds which might catch the opponent’s blade.
When fastening your fencing jacket, make sure, that all fastening devices (straps, hook and loop fasteners, zippers, buttons etc.) are closed completely and firmly. The garment may not be used any longer, if any of the fastening devices doesn’t work properly.
Fencing, as a combat sport that involves physical contact with fencing weapons, is inherently dangerous. The purpose of fencing protective equipment is to prevent injuries as much as possible or, at worst, to minimize the severity of injuries, particularly from the weapon’s tip. Broken blades present a particular risk. The circumstances of a blade breakage may result in high tip velocities and consequent high energy impacts by the broken blade. It is known that broken blades can penetrate protective clothing with potentially fatal consequences. Fencing protective gear cannot guarantee complete protection against injuries, especially from broken blades.
Protective equipment must not be changed or manipulated. In particular, seams should not be unstitched, and no parts should be added or removed.
Fencing clothing is designed to only be used by either left handers or right handers (see marking on the cover page). Fencing clothing for right handers must not be used by left handers and vice versa.
Care instructions must be strictly followed. Non-compliance can reduce the level of protection of the equipment. Fencing protective equipment should be regularly inspected carefully for mechanical damage (abrasions, tears, holes, torn seams). If such damage is detected, the protective effectiveness may be compromised, and the protective equipment must no longer be used.
This garment can be washed at 30°C in a mild detergent. Don’t spin-dry or tumble this garment, as the mechanical impacts might reduce its level of protection. All closures have to be closed during washing.
To be stored in its original packing in a cool and dry place without direct light exposure.
